People love stuff that lightens their
day, like "national days". Today, national days have gained a mainstream audience, as is evidenced by
the many
radio station DJs that spend air time mentioning them. It's a
fun thing for their listeners. Associating a company, a product, or a specific promotion with the right
national day adds to a company's marketing tools. For example, a
bakery, and even more specifically a donut shop, would be interested in
planning a sale or other promotional event to coincide with National Donut Day.
The history, culture, and traditions behind national days is
sometimes fun, sometimes informative, sometimes both.
To give you some idea about the popularity of these national days,
there are now at least three websites dedicated to sharing the history,
culture and traditions with the rest of the world: National
Day Calendar (NationalDayCaldendar.com),
National Whatever Day (NationalWhateverDay.com),
and National Today (NationalToday.com).
National days happen every day of the year. Every day is national
"something" day. In fact, if you look at the above websites on any
given day, you will see that there are usually a half dozen national
days being observed. |
